Paraphrase: I was on the point of showing my agreement by bowing when I suddenly realized what he meant. His works shocked me out of my sad dreamy thinking.

47. “Today it is the teachers,” he continued, “and tomorrow the magazines, the books, the newspapers.”

Paraphrase: “Today the teachers are put on trial because they teach scientific knowledge, ” he continued, “soon the magazines, the books and the news papers are not allowed to express new ideas and to spread knowledge of science.”

Paraphrase: They are born. Then for a few years they work, toil and starve. Finally they die and are buried in graves without a name, and nobody notices that they are dead.
