Part One Translation (90分/150)

1. Translate the Following English into Chinese (20分):

Let me come to the point boldly; what governs the Englishman is his inner atmosphere, the

weather in his soul. It is nothing particularly spiritual or mysterious. When he has taken his

exercise and is drinking his tea or his beer and lighting his pipe; when, in his garden or his fire, he

sprawls in an aggressively comfortable chair; when well-washed and well-brushed, he resolutely

turns in church to the east and recites the Creed without in the least implying that he believes one

word of it. When he makes up his mind who is his best friend or his favorite poet; when he adopts

a party or a sweetheart; — never is it a precise reason, or purpose, or outer fact that determines

him; it is always the atmosphere of his inner man.

2. Translate the Following into English (25分):

从心所欲，不是说可以倚老卖老，我行我素，予取予求，惹人生厌。老年人的从心所欲，

主要指的是心态，而不是行为；不在于做什么，而在于想什么。一切顺乎自然，力所能及，

随遇而安，怡然自得。从心所欲，说白了，就是要有自己的活法，在心灵深处构筑独自的“自

由王国”。海阔凭鱼跃，天高任鸟飞，悠悠然自得其乐！这种自由，既是无限的，又是有限

的；无限的从心所欲寓于有限的生活空间。我想，这大概就是孔夫子所说的“不逾矩”吧！

3. Translate the Following Business English into Chinese (20分):

It is time to face facts: markets are not just betting against the euro but testing the European

project itself. Franco-German summit showed that the more leaders repeat the impossibility of

Eurobonds, the less they are believed. The Merkel and Sarkozy’s proposals were an attempt to

paper over differences and buy time, but the past few months have shown that this piecemeal

approach will simply increase the cost of a long-term solution. To save itself, the European Union

must stop seeking loopholes and attacking symptoms.

The only way to stop a tide of disintegration spreading beyond the euro to the EU itself is to

tackle these problems head on. Doing so, however, means first giving up the dream of a one-speed

Europe. EU nations have long traveled at different speeds, but now they need an institutional
